Nugget Market was founded in 1926 by a father and son, William and Mack Stille in downtown Woodland, CA. Their first store helped pioneer concepts such as in-house meat departments, refrigerated produce, and checkout stands with conveyor belts. They expanded outside of the local Woodland community in the 1970s into cities such as Davis and Sacramento. In the late 1990s, they took on a new concept of creating a European-style marketplace within their stores. This incorporated everything from a full-service kitchen to a coffee bar.

This new brand intends to help extend the company from a local, Northern California, grocery chain to a nation wide brand.
